Jervell-Lange-Nielsen syndrome

Genetic, autosomal reccesive disorder of potassium ion channels
Characterized by:
Deafness/hearing impairment
[Gerbil has ear plugs that help him to study]
Fainting
[passed out because the Lange book was dry]
QT prolongation
[time seems very long when reading Lange, the tail shows long QT]
Can lead to fatal arrhythmia and sudden death!
Usually presents in kids or teenagers

Treated with beta blockers (i.e.
propranolol
[propane lollipop]
)
