Adrenergic agonists
- Dopamine [Dope mine rolling]
- With increasing dosage first activates Beta receptors [lowest obstacle], then alpha receptors [higher obstacle]
- Also stimulates dopaminergic D1 & D2 receptors [D-smiles]
- D1 receptors are located in splanchnic bed, resulting in visceral dilation
- Stimulation of D2 receptors inhibits release of vesicles from bouton
- Used in treatment of shock [Shocked face] in order to raise blood pressure by systemic vasoconstriction [Boa constriction], without decreasing visceral perfusion
- Does not cross blood-brain barrier [Barrier in shocked head]
- Dobutamine [debuting mine] stimulates the heart via Beta-1 receptors [kicking the heart into action & clover symbol]
- Used in treatment of congestive heart failure [Corked arterial outlet]
- Phenylephrine [Phenyl rhino]
- Stimulates both alpha-1 & 2 receptors [Ears are upper half of adrenergic clover]
- Vasoconstrictor [Boa body constricting vessel]
- Used as nasal decongestant [tissue]
- Resistant to degradation by COMT [comet dropping]
- Methoxamine ["Me thanks" a(lpha) mine] - raises blood pressure by vasoconstriction [Constricting the mine causes increase in blood pressure indicator]
- Clonidine [Clones dine under neuron bouton lamp]
- Lowers blood pressure [leaking & lowering blood level inside neuron] by stimulating the inhibitory alpha-2 neural receptors located on presynaptic membrane [clover]
- Salt retention and good perfusion of kidneys [salt shaker & thick renal arteries]
- Methyldopa [Menthol dope] has actions similar to Clonidine
- Albuterol [Album terror] stimulates beta-2 receptor [lung in clover beta-2 position is stimulated], causing bronchodilation [Thick trachea & bronchi]. Treatment of choice for asthma
- Metaraminol [met ram pole]
- Stimulates adrenergic receptors directly and also causes release of noradrenaline vesicles from the neural bouton [pole piercing and spilling vesicles and also activating postsynaptic side]
- Used in treatment of shock [Shocked face]
- Ephedrine [Fed rhino]
- Stimulates all 4 receptors (alpha 1,2 & beta 1,2) [4-leaf clovers in feed], leading to bronchodilation [thick trachea & bronchi] and increased blood pressure [high BP meter]
- Also causes release of stored synaptic vesicles [horn piercing & spilling vesicles]
- Used as decongestant [tissue]
- COMT-resistant [Comet dropping]
