Antianginal, Beta-blockers: Nitroglycerin, Isosorbide Dinitrate, Isosorbide mnemonic

Antianginal [hypoxic blue heart with snorkel]

Nitroglycerin [dynamite (nitroglycerin is the main component of dynamite)]
- Dilates both veins and arteries [blows them up]
- Effective against both atherosclerotic and Prinzmetal angina [Prince of heavy metal]
- Side effects include headache and hypotension [blowing up the head and low BP indicator]
- Eliminated by the liver [liver biting through a dynamite stick]
Isosorbide dinitrate & isosorbide [2 dynamite is orbiting & "I SOS" orbit] - similar effects to nitroglycerin
Beta-blockers [lollipop - the drug names end in lol]
- Decrease heart rate and therefore decrease oxygen demand of the heart
- Contraindicated in Prinzmetal angina, since beta-blockers prevent vasodilation [Prince metal shoots down the woos- lollipop with his guitar]
